So where to start... where to start!? Honestly, never did I imagine actually attending a convention for the television show Supernatural. It was just a dream in my head... one I yearned for but never dreamed of attending. I would watch panels (mainly J2) from the conventions on youtube and be envious of any fan photos I saw with the cast... but I had come to the conclusion that I would have to watch from afar... that I would never get that lucky.
Well.......... after much consideration I decided to check out Creation's website to see if any Supernatural convention would be held close to my state; Pennsylvania. Low and behold I saw that a new city had been listed: Washington, DC!!! OMG, I was absolutely ecstatic. I know that city! It's only a 2.5 hour drive at most away from home. I quickly woke up my dad and explained to him (not so calmly) that I was about to throw away $1000+ in order to purchase a GOLD ticket and three photo op tickets (Jared, Jensen, and a J2 Sandwich). This was in June of '13...
I was kinda bummed that I still had 11 freakin' months I had to wait (May '14) in order to get to meet the cast of the show I have been a fan of since the VERY beginning when the show started in 2005. But, nevertheless, I was still going to get to meet this phenomenal cast! And I held onto the hope that they would add Misha Collins (Castiel, the angel) to the convention as well... as he is my favorite. So needless to say, I had NO regrets spending the money for the convention tickets...
11 months was going to be a long wait though...
So it was July - I was at Ocean City, MD - when I went on the Salute To Supernatural facebook page and saw that someone posted a SILVER ticket for sale for the Chicago SOLD OUT SPN con... I couldn't breathe... After being bummed about the long wait for the DC con, I felt like this was fate intervening... telling me to GET THIS ChiCon ticket. What did I do? I bought it!
-Who knew that I would end up finding a GOLD, FRONT & CENTER seat for ChiCon a few weeks later!!!! Lucky girl I was for ChiCon '13!-
As soon as I had bought the silver ticket I went straight to the convention site and ordered my Misha photo op ticket and an autograph ticket, and I bought a Jared photo op ticket (as theirs' were still available). Then I went back to facebook and started searching to see if I could get lucky enough to find someone selling a Jensen photo op or a J2 photo op.
-I was! A nice lady from England decided against going to ChiCon (deciding to go to BurCon instead) was selling BOTH Jensen and J2 photos ($100/each)! <--- What a steal!-
I grabbed those tickets right up. So very much appreciated her sale and her advice for what to expect for my first con experience. Chicago was only 3 months away now! Seemed almost unbelievable that I would be attending a convention in 2013... it was hard to wrap my head around it. My dad thought I was nuts! The only downfall was the cost of the plane tickets... almost $500 for a round-trip, ugh!
As I started joining more and more Supernatural Convention pages on facebook, I ended up making friends. These friends are: Leah, Veronica, Jennifer, Rachel, Mel, and Robin (plus several others). The majority of them (except Veronica) were all going to TorCon. Toronto was happening 2 weeks prior to the Chicago convention in October on the weekend of the 11th-13th.
I was kinda bummed not to be attending that one as all my friends were going. Plus that one seemed to be the least crazy of the two I was attending... everything (but the admission tickets) wasn't sold out. Well, when Veronica decided to attend within weeks of TorCon, she got me thinking.
How awesome would it be to attend TorCon with all my friends; it would be the first con since the start of season 9; plus it would be a week-late birthday celebration for myself... Very last minute (like 2 weeks before TorCon), I decided to attend!!! Seriously, the smartest decision of my life...
I contacted Leah, who lives in Buffalo, and asked her if she'd be willing to let me ride with her to Toronto. She agreed. So I took a flight out of Baltimore up to Buffalo. From there, Leah drove us to Toronto.
What happens next... will be described in the following post!
